Project Description

MDLU 792015 4

Jason Sims

The sculpture is a semi-abstracted shipping container. The perforated metal side panels reveal a warm light glow from within. Up close, the perforations appear as a grid of holes. It is only when viewed at a distance that the ‘form’ of the corrugated walls appear, giving an otherwise flat surface the illusion of depth.

The container appears to have been dropped on its end to appear partially embedded into the floor. It is also tilted slightly forward and to the right.  Two angled, open doors atop also reveal a subtle glow. By night the form is defined by the glowing perforations; by day it is the perforations in shadow against a lustrous brass finish.

Armature was engaged by the artist at early concept phase through development, management & installation to deliver his first foray into the public domain
