Description

Armature Design Support was engaged to co-develop and document this ‘Dilbert Dunker’ stage prop for the 2012 Australian theatrical production of An Officer and a Gentlemen.

In this musical adaptation of the 1982 movie, Navy recruits undergo rigorous training and the experience of a water plane crash simulator; the Dilbert Dunker. Performers are strapped inside the Dilbert Dunker cockpit cage, raised 5m into the air and control dropped via hydraulics within the walls of the pool. An LED screen enacts video imagery to simulate under pool water experience.

The Dilbert Dunker includes a hydraulic forklift mechanism, a collapsible ladder, retractable wall, LED video screen and waterproof internal membrane for the performers to be bathed in water.
